Are forums a dying breed? I don’t know, if so, I clearly have not received that memo. I have run many forums in the last few years and for one reason or another, I have either shut the site down or decided to give it away to others. But once again, I am lured back into the forum game. Why? Well I run multiple blogs, spanning multiple topics. Most of which all come back to PC related activities. So I decided, why not run a forum that bases its content around my blog topics. From actual blogging, to PC hardware and software based topics to PC and console gaming. These topics are all covered at my new forum, TheYoungGuyForum.com. You will also notice there is a link at the top of the page cleverly titled “Forum”.

HBP Giveaway or Sale?

So I won’t lie to you all, I am thinking about ways to generate more traffic to my RSS Feed. I have been thinking of ways to create returning readers and commentators. So something came to mind. I just rebuilt my PC. I was sitting here looking around the room and it caught my eye, every piece of hardware that I just removed from my PC (all still good and running great) sitting there waiting to be put back into action.

So here is what I am thinking. I can 1) rebuild a new PC with those parts, 2) sell the parts individually or together, or 3) I can have some sort of contest on my blog(s) to giveaway each piece of equipment. Here is the list of parts below:

• Motherboard: ASUS A8n-SLi Premium
• CPU: AMD Athlon X2 4800+
• Graphics Card: Evga 7800 GTX KO
• Power Supply: Ultra Xfinity 600 Watt
• RAM: 2.5 GB or Corsair DDR w/ heat spreaders

Total value of the whole package is approximately $903.00 retail cost brand new. Each piece was used for approximately 1 year and never overclocked. The package together ran Crysis on mid settings smoothly on Windows XP Pro. Otherwise I will base my decisions on what to do with this stuff on the comments you all leave on the site. So its up to you to tell me which of the 3 choices I should make. I look forward to hearing your opinions.

Computer Stupidities

So I found a rather entertaining website, rinkworks.com/stupid, which has some great humor around computer repair. Here are some examples that I found on the site.

1. Customer: “Is it possible to put Windows 95 on a Commodore 64?”
2. Customer: “It says here that I need a 2 times CD-ROM drive. Does this mean I have to get another CD-ROM drive?”
3. Customer: “I need you to tell me what browser I am using. Is it Netscape 2.0? The reason I need to know is that I have read that Netscape 2.0 distributes a virus called Java.”

Best Hardware Gifts

What are the best holiday gifts you can give a geek? A lot of people don’t know so here are some ideas.

• Flash Drives - You can’t go wrong with flash drives(thumb drives, pin drives, etc.). Geeks need them and love them. These days a 2GB flash drive should be the low end of the spectrum for a geek.
• Gift Cards - You can never go wrong with a gift card to one of the leading PC retailers or e-tailers (online retailers like newegg.com, tigerdirect.com etc.)
